Water Safety |

|
☀️ Thames Valley Police wishes everyone a fantastic weekend. As temperatures rise and many people head outdoors to enjoy the sunshine, please remember to put safety first. Open water may look inviting, but it can often pose hidden dangers. Before entering any body of open water, please take a moment to read the following safety advice to help keep yourself and others safe.
Key Water Saftey Advice Avoid Unsupervised Spots: Use lifeguarded locations or local lidos instead of rivers and lakes where hidden depths and strong currents exist. Cold Water Shock: Water temperatures remain dangerously low even on hot days, causing sudden involuntary gasping and breathing difficulties. Alcohol Risks: Never enter water or walk near steep banks after consuming alcohol or drugs, which impair judgment and swimming ability. Stay Clear of Edges: Riverbanks can be unstable and slippery, especially during high flow or poor weather conditions. What to Do in an Emergency Call 999: Dial immediately and ask for the Fire Service if someone gets into difficulty. Float: Shout at the person to encourage them to float on their back. Throw Rescue Aid: Use available rescue equipment or throw something that floats. Do Not Enter: Never jump in yourself to try and rescue someone | ||
